Teaching Assistant Program

Teaching Assistants play an integral role in the Undergraduate Communication Program. Comprised of Wharton juniors and seniors who thrived in WH 2010/WH 2011, the cohort is given advanced communication and facilitation training in order to support current students as they advance their skills.

Responsibilities:

Junior and Senior TAs are uniquely positioned to share how strong business communication skills have shaped their internships and Wharton experience.

In addition to modeling communication skills in the classroom, TAs assist lecturers with class management, technology, and facilitate student activities. TAs also lead one class every semester and provide one-on-one mentoring.

Members of the cohort participate in professional development activities and leadership projects throughout the year, including the bi-annual Letters to the Vice Dean Presentation. A highlight of the semester, a team of TAs gives a consulting-style presentation to the Vice Dean and her staff, summarizing trends and identifying key concerns highlighted in a core class assignment. The presentation offers insight into all elements of the undergraduate experience.

This academic role is paid at a rate commensurate with similar positions at the University.

Application Process:

New TA selection occurs every semester beginning in November and March. TAs are selected through a competitive selection process that begins with a nomination from their WH 2010/WH 2011 lecturer. Lecturers identify and recommend promising students from their sections. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to give useful feedback to their peers, and a commitment to continuous development.

Nominees are invited to formally apply to the program and selected by a team of current TAs through a double-blind review process.

Candidates are considered for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, creed, national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status, or any class protected under applicable federal, state, or local law. See the University of Pennsylvania Policy on Equal Opportunity.
